		<description>Thanks for the info. I&#039;m surprised none of my friends who have been to the UK noticed. It&#039;s good to hear that four phase signals are used outside Scandinavia. The `get ready&#039; phase makes a big difference when driving a standard transmission. As one of the few Americans who drives a manual, I&#039;d like to see four phase adopted here. Then if we could do something about the people who don&#039;t realize the light has changed until 30 seconds later...</description>

		<description>All traffic signals in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland) are &#039;four phase&#039; too. Whenever I&#039;ve driven in the US, I&#039;ve always found myself being &#039;surprised&#039; by the sudden red-to-green of your traffic signals, although that effect is partly ameliorated by the fact that automatic transmissions are the norm in the US (to the best of my knowledge) and you don&#039;t have to waste time with gear selectors, etc - you can just go... in the UK though, where I drive a manual gear shift car, the red-and-orange phase is invaluable for preparing to go.</description>
